Write something in
Standing across the water from Maine’s Nubble Light, I was struck by something a lighthouse never promises. It doesn’t promise calm seas. It doesn’t remove the rocks or silence the storm. It simply shines so that, even in difficult waters, we can find our way.
Peace works that way, too.
We spend so much of our lives waiting for the waters to become calm before allowing ourselves to feel at peace.
Perhaps peace isn’t waiting for the storm to end.
Perhaps it is discovering the light by which we can navigate while the storm is still around us.
On this particular day, the lighthouse itself was wrapped in scaffolding, a reminder I hadn’t expected.
Even a beacon needs tending.
Even something built to guide others sometimes requires restoration. Perhaps we do, too.
The destination towards peace isn’t a life without rough water.
Destination Peace is learning to recognize the light that can lead us through it.
