Naila H. Chowdhury has built a legacy rooted in empowering underprivileged women economically and socially. One of her most notable contributions came through her work on the GrameenPhone Village Phone Project, in collaboration with Nobel Peace Prize laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus. This initiative provided mobile phones to women in remote Bangladeshi villages, enabling them to start small businesses and achieve financial independence. As the first woman director of GrameenPhone Ltd., she played a pivotal role in transforming it into Bangladesh’s largest mobile operator, revolutionizing telecommunications and connectivity in the region.

Beyond telecom, Chowdhury founded and chairs Women4Empowerment, an organization that has impacted over one million women worldwide through economic empowerment projects.
